Waiting For Her

Artist Notes

When I was 17, I spent a summer in Siena, Italy at an art school. Afterwards I met up with my girlfriend and we backpacked through Europe together. I did this drawing after the school ended while I was waiting for her to show up. I was drawing that cathedral but the sun was going down so I could not finish it. I went inside and saw a fresco by Giotto (I think). That’s where the man’s face is from. Above is my girlfriend, floating in the sky. I was thinking of her, that is why she is like a dream. I chose to draw that crying man’s face because I was missing her so much.
