This series of paintings is about a mysterious glowing light on the horizon beyond a forest of trees. Emotionally, it is about hope in a time of darkness, and perhaps about the possibility of life after death. The compositions tend towards simplicity with a large part of the canvas taken over by a tight pattern of small brush strokes and shapes. The compositions, and to a lesser degree the patterns, are inspired by some of Gustav Klimt’s landscapes such as Fruit Trees (1901), Pear Tree (1903) and the Park (1910).
